Why you need Witch Hazel in your life

A while back I asked you guys on Instagram what your HOLY GRAIL skin care product was. That ONE product you could not live without and as I was reading through the comments, I noticed that so many of you mentioned witch hazel.

I actually had never heard of it before and didn’t know anyone that personally used it, so I did some research on what the hype was all about and decided to try it myself.

What is witch hazel?

Witch hazel is actually a shrub with yellow flowers! The twigs, leaf and bark are used in first aid and different face products to help any skin type from dying up or becoming irritated while doing a great job at removing makeup. It's also said to be a great product to fight acne as it is a natural astringent to soothe inflammation and decrease overall oil and redness without overdrying.

How do you use witch hazel products?

The most classic way is as a face toner and cleanser! It's gentle, natural and effective. It removes makeup and excess oil from skin and even clears dirt and residue from pores to make them appear smaller!

Difference between micellar water and witch hazel?

I'm a huge fan of micellar water because it's an easy and effective way to cleanse your face without using water and soap. I use micellar water in the morning or after a workout when i don't have access to a sink. I wanted to find out the difference between the two so I did a little more research. Turns out witch hazel does much more than micellar water!

Both are effective makeup and oil removers and are clear liquids however, witch hazel has the therapeutic properties of the plant and is an astringent! This means it refreshes skin and refines pores, removing excess dirt, oil and makeup residue without overdrying. It’s gentle enough for daily use (even for those with sensitive skin!).

Which brand of witch hazel do I like?

I use Dickinson’s Original Witch Hazel because witch hazel is ALWAYS the first ingredient in their products! Their 100% natural witch hazel has no added fragrances or dyes, leaving my combination skin feeling clean & radiant and helps keep pimples at bay. I love how easy it is to use and how gentle it is too!

I’m currently dealing with dryness & sensitivity on my face and I love that I can keep it clean with these cleansing cloths and not feel any stinging or sensitivity.

What’s super exciting is they recently came out with exfoliating pads that are perfect for using on the go or while traveling. They are basically cotton pads pre soaked with witch hazel.

There are two kinds: ENERGIZING and DEEP CLEANSING.

The DEEP CLEANSING eliminates dirt and excess oil to clear pores while the ENERGIZING revitalizes skin and is enhanced with caffeine & vitamin B3 to awaken skin while clearing pores.

I keep a jar in my car when I don’t have time to do a full face cleanse.
