Why I Got a Mini Boob Job (and What the Process Was Like!)

Hey, Remi here!!

Today I want to talk all about my mini boob job! It’s coming up on the two-year anniversary of my procedure, and I want to look back on why I made the decision, what the experience was like, and give you an update on how things are today! I’ve learned so much since making the decision to get a boob job, and I just want to share my thoughts with you guys. <3

I know some of you have been following this journey since the very beginning – and don’t worry, I’ve got a new update coming soon! For those of you who are just learning about this, before you judge, I’d just ask you to hear more about my decision and why I decided to get one in the first place.

I am genuinely excited to share this story with you guys, and I hope that it sheds light on the matter if you’re considering something like it and gives you some clarity about what to expect!

How I Made the Decision to Get a Boob Job

I didn’t make this decision overnight – I went back and forth about whether or not to get a SMALL breast enhancement for over 15 years! My friends were against it, my parents were against it and so was my ex-boyfriend. But I’ll be real with you guys: I LOVE boobs!! LOL. And being flat-chested had always, always been an insecurity of mine. Sometimes it would go away and I'd feel fine, and a lot of other times the anxiety got so real I would end up in tears of frustration… cue not being able to fit into TOPS and BIKINIS.

When I turned 30, I knew that I was making this decision for MYSELF and not for anyone else.I also made sure to do my homework! I met with different doctors to learn about the risks and what to expect during the whole process. I went down the rabbit hole of researching breast implant illness and saw there were so many risks associated with it. This is a huge, risky surgery, and if you’re considering it, first learn everything you can about what happens if your body rejects silicon. It can be really scary!

Back when I first made this decision, I knew I wanted to be 100% open with you guys every step of the way. I’m not the type that wants to hide these things- I’m quite the opposite actually. I was really excited about this choice, and I wanted to share my journey so I could help others in the same way!

Long story short, I just want to stress that I made this decision to get a small boob upgrade for MWAH. I wanted to feel LIKE ME but be able to fill out tops without having to worry about adding padding, boob tape, and nips showing because the bra gapes open so much. It also sucked telling stylists I couldn’t wear this or that or I needed double chicken cutlets to fill out a sports bra… maybe even some duct tape. It was just ANNOYING how none of my fancy tops or bikinis fit!!

So how did it go?

My Surgery and Three Days Post-Op!

After doing some research, I chose to work with Dr. Steven Teitelbaum in Santa Monica. On the morning of my surgery, I was SUPER nervous — it felt like my heart was beating out of my chest. My friend Qian took me to the doctor’s office early in the morning, where they gave me a bunch of relax pills and had me take them before pictures.

The surgery went by soooooo fast for me. The nurses prepped me, talked to me, and then the next thing I knew I woke up, and it was done!

If you guys want to see me come out of the surgery realllllly confused and groggy— you can check out the video here, lol. I felt really drunk!! The surgery was at 9 am and when Qian took me home, I had my first meal of the day at 3 PM. Every hour the doctor gave me a bunch of exercises to do to help with mobility and make sure everything was healing right.

I didn’t really feel any pain because of the nerve block they gave me and slept through the first night without any problems. Qian took me back for a checkup the next day and the doctor told me that 70% of the volume would still be sitting up pretty high for some time. I was reassured that it eventually drops toward the bottom – “drop and fluff” and will look more natural.

I definitely felt a little rawer on the third day where the stitches were. The nerve block that Dr. Teitelbaum gave me was wearing off. It wasn’t too bad – I’d say a four out of ten on the pain scale. But it was a little surprising because the first two days were so easy!

It takes one to three months to heal and up to a year for everything to settle! If you’re not squeamish, I also show you what my scars look like at that point, LOL.

Three Months Later!!! And Some Q&A

Three months later, and I was feeling pretty good! Looking back, those first three days were super easy — thanks to that nerve block!! Days four thru ten following the surgery, I was feeling pretty low. But, the pain never got higher than a level five for me!!

I remember being so confused at first because my chest was just all over the map – the entire surface area was so swollen that you couldn’t see any defined cleavage. At first, I was worried that maybe I had gone too small, but as the swelling went down I saw more definition. I am so happy with my size now! Wearing tanks and bikinis are so much less stressful than before. I’m still wearing the same size tops and swimsuits, just filling them out better. Still a 32B but full.

As far as scarring, I had a friend who got boobs and she used these Silagen Silicone Gel Sheets to minimize the scarring. I used them too for the first three months, and I think they work pretty well!

I also want to answer some of the questions you all had!!!

  • How soon were you able to workout?

I was cleared to start working out after six weeks. I started with lower-body workouts only, focusing on circuit-based weight training. I modified anything that involved arms — burpees, pullups, and pushups. The doctor told me that I was OK to go after six weeks, but if things felt weird, that would be normal and go away eventually.

  • Are your nipples super sensitive?

In the beginning, yes! The first two weeks my nipples felt kind of prickly. It didn’t feel good to wear loose clothes, so I mostly wore light, thin sports bras.

  • Do they feel natural?

Honestly, sometimes my boobs feel softer than other times. They became softer and felt better throughout the year. I chose silicone because I wanted my boobs to feel moldable and sit with my body – versus a textured implant that can kind of look a little stiff.

  • Do I wish I had gotten them bigger?

No, I think the size is great! I’m 5’4,” and the size is what my body can handle. I’m a petite person, and the look I was going for wasn’t super boob-y, haha!

  • Can you breastfeed with implants?

I won’t know until I have a kid, and I try to breastfeed! My doctor said that I shouldn’t have any issues. I have friends who do it perfectly fine, but it definitely depends on each individual.

  • Were you nervous about the side effects?

Yes! I did my research and went through every side effect I could possibly have. Dr. Teitelbaum gave me some educational videos too that scared the hell out of me. I was well aware of the thousands of women who have breast implant illness, and I’m really lucky that I don’t have any life-threatening side effects. Currently I still have a little numbness on my left boob though.

  • Where did you find your boob inspo?

Most of the photos I brought my doctor were from Instagram! Originally my doctor suggested that we go a full cup size bigger than where I ended up, but I wanted something smaller. He said it was so helpful that I brought in pictures because originally we were considering a higher cup size. Here’s the presentation I showed the doctor to give him an idea of exactly what I wanted!! remi's boob inspo

  • How was the mental adjustment?

In the beginning, what surprised me was when I could feel the inside of my arm touch my chest. Side boob was a new awesome thing that I never used to have before! Did I have any freakout moments? Not really, because I had watched so many videos and educated myself on the healing process that I knew my boobs would look scary at first. I knew what to expect so I never really mentally had a freakout. It’s been a very positive mental experience!

  • What are your post-op essentials?

I highly recommend this cheese wedge pillow that I found on Amazon. It helps you sit on a couch upright without having to use your back to get up. You also need a FRIEND post-op or someone to be with you for the first two days and help you get up and remember to do your exercises and things like that.

  • How long until you can wear a bikini?

I put on a bikini on Day 1! I wore bikinis all throughout my recovery process, every day. I was so excited!!

My Boobs Settled — After Six Months!

Six months after my procedure, my boobs had settled, and I was ready to start trying new styles! I have absolutely NOOO regrets.

Because there aren’t that many videos out there for people who got small boob jobs, I wanted to share how I play up or play down my breast enhancement. If you guys want to check it out — I tried on a low-plunge v-dress, a couple of low one-pieces with a low plunge, a tube top, a couple of padded bras, a bralette, and a bikini with no padding.

What I like about a deep-v top or dress is that you can expose a lot, and it doesn’t look too much. A double-push-up bra gives me a lot more cleavage — it’s great for if I want to play them up, haha. With a bralette, everything looks really natural.

After One Year!!

So bottom line,I’m superrrr happy with how they turned out! I’m a full 32 B now, and I think because of the modest upgrade I got, they still look natural. The more time that goes on and the more used to the size I get, the more I start to wonder if I should have gone bigger. But I think they fit my frame really nicely, and I don’t really second-guess myself. I like playing them up from time to time too.

It took about ten months for my nerves to repair themselves and to stop feeling numbness and sensitivity but it still comes and goes. The scarring doesn't look too bad, and it keeps getting lighter and lighter. I think scar tape seriously helps!!

I hope you enjoyed reading about my mini boob job journey! I will always be completely honest with you, especially about the hard things, and my hope is that you can learn from my experience and make a decision that is right for YOU. <3
