Surprising My Dad with His DREAM CAR!!!
Hiii, it’s me, Remi!
Recently, my dad turned 70! It was definitely a milestone in his life, and I was so excited to get to celebrate with him and my mom. I knew we would have a great time getting together for a nice dinner, but this year, I wanted to do something a little bit special…
My dad has had the same dream car for years — the Tesla Model X. He has admired that car from afar for a long time, so it seemed like the perfect surprise gift for such a big birthday! I had been thinking about it over the last year and finally took the plunge and got him the car. I brought it to my parent’s house and completely surprised him. He of course got to drive it to take us all to his special birthday dinner. It was an incredible dream-come-true moment for my dad and me, and I feel so grateful and happy to have been a part of it! If you want to see his shock and excitement in real-time, definitely check out the reaction video on my YouTube Channel!
In this blog post, I’m telling you the story of how I surprised my dad with his dream car. I want to share a little more about my dad and the strong bond we’ve had ever since I was little. I’m going to tell you about my experience picking the car up and driving to their house. And finally, I can’t wait to describe my dad’s reaction — he was surprised, amazed, and so so SO happy to finally have his dream car!
I am so incredibly thankful for my dad, and I’m so glad I could make him so so happy on his 70th birthday. He’s the best dad in the whole world, he works so hard and deserves so much!
The Special Bond with My Dad
When I was growing up, my parents had pretty distinct roles in our house. My mom was always the strict parent — she pushed me hard and always expected the very best from me. But my dad was a little more forgiving of mistakes. He was always willing to meet me halfway — which drove my mom insane, of course! But I was always grateful for his patience and how he could meet me in the middle. He and I developed a special bond that I truly treasure.
He’s a man of few words, and to tell you the truth, we don’t often have conversations — even about important things. We exchange only a few words in our relationship, but there is still this strong feeling of love between us that I can’t explain.
My dad has always made his family his very first priority. For example, he cooks the BEST Chinese food, and he always lets me take the first bite while he watches my face to see my reaction. He is constantly striving to make us happy and comfortable — I’m so thankful for him!
And if dad isn't working to do something for mom or me, he’s still staying super active! He’s always washing the car or doing laundry, and if he finds any spare time, he loves reading Chinese books, swimming, and watering the garden. Seriously, my dad does not STOP! He literally does not know how to relax. We recently took a family trip to Hawaii, and he couldn’t slow down to enjoy it! Haha, we’ll never do THAT again!
It’s AMAZING that he loves to be so active and spend so much of his energy working and giving to others. But sometimes, at his age, he can be a little too active… and he’s started to have some health problems.
My Dad’s Health Scare
A couple of years ago, we went through a really scary time. My dad started to experience some very serious heart issues. If he didn’t learn how to slow down a little bit, his active lifestyle was actually going to cost him his life. We were so scared — I didn’t want to lose my dad!
Since then, he’s learned to relax a little. He’s a little bit less active than he used to be, and while I know he loves being active, he’s not struggling with those heart issues anymore. To help him relax, I’m constantly texting him with reminders to breathe, slow down, and drink plenty of water. I’m sooooo glad he’s healthier now — I want him to have a lot of years left!
That time was definitely scary, but it makes this birthday even more special! 70 is a big number, so I knew I had to think of a big present for my dad! I’m so grateful to still have him with me after his health scare, so I really wanted to celebrate BIGGGG this year!!! That’s why I decided to give him his DREAM CAR.
Arriving at Tesla
On the day of my dad’s birthday, the fun truly began! Nate and I went to the Tesla dealership to pick up my dad’s car. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the dealership had us all ready to do a contactless delivery! My dad’s beautiful new Tesla Model X was parked in Space #2, all prepared for us to drive it away!
I picked up the keys and went to get in the car, and the first thing I noticed was that the air conditioning immediately turned on. This car was soooo freaking comfortable! Also, the seats were so cushy — I loved sitting in them! We also noticed that the car has a TON of space! You can see the whole interior in my vlog — it has a big back seat and a lot of trunk space too!
I signed the final papers to finalize the purchase of the car, and we were off! Nate and I drove it over to my parents’ house to pick them up for dinner, and seriously, driving this car was CRAZY! It’s almost like you don’t have to use the brake — you just lighten up putting pressure on the gas, and the car automatically slows down. It was a little weird to get used to, but I got the hang of it pretty quickly!
When we got to my parents’ house, we put a big bow on the hood of the car, left it parked on the street, and went up to pick them up! I couldn’t WAIT to see my dad’s reaction!
Dad’s Reaction to His Tesla Model X
After we said “Hello!” to my parents, we walked them down to the street. Of course, my dad went racing ahead, and we had to slow down for a minute to let my mom catch up. But when we got to the bottom of the driveway and my dad saw his gift…
Oh my GOSH, he was SOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!!! His whole face lit up, and at first, he couldn’t even believe it was real! He kept talking about how shocked and surprised he was — he finally owned his dream car! He and my mom even giggled about the big bow on the front. They were both super surprised and happy! After they had a chance to realize the car was actually his, I gave dad the keys, and he got to drive us all to dinner.
During the ride, he could not stop smiling! He even said that he thought he wouldn’t be able to sleep that night because he was so excited! And he kept repeating that his 70th birthday was absolutely amazing.
Celebrating My Dad
Mom, Dad, Nate, and I all had dinner together at a table outside the restaurant. It was such a fun night! We had a delicious dinner, and then my dad did the cutest thing — he insisted on picking us up right at our table in his brand new car! He pulled up right beside us, opened the fancy back doors, and happily waited for us all to climb inside. He just couldn’t wait to drive his car again!
Dad drove us all back to his home, and we took a minute to show him how to use the charger for his car. It all worked out so nicely! The power outlet in his garage was right next to where he normally parks, so it was super easy for him just to plug in the car and charge it up! I know he couldn’t wait to give it a full charge and take it out for another ride.
My dad LOVES the Tesla Model X, and he’s wanted one for a long time. He is such an amazing and special part of my life — I was so happy to make that dream come true for him. He and I will always have this special bond and so much love between us, and it made me so happy to make him happy! (If you want to see his big, excited smile, check out my Instagram post from the night!)
My dad’s happiness is my happiness, and I know he would say the same about me. He has always been so generous and loving to everyone else — he deserved a very special present for his 70th birthday!
