Sleep, fitness, hair, diet; habits that keep me healthy!
Hi friends!!
I’ve been thinking so much lately about how I can bring you guys the most value in my posts!! I work with a lot of amazing brands but besides sharing their cool back stories and great products I also want to give you practical tips and tricks about fitness, wellness and beauty to apply in your life!
So today I’m writing about why wellness is a lifestyle! I think we can all agree that ONLY going to the gym doesn’t necessarily make us healthy if we aren’t eating well or sleeping well. Just like skin care products can only go so far if we are consistently putting terrible food into our bodies!
Wellness is incorporated into ALL areas of my life. And by creating little habits for fitness, eating, skin care, hair care and my mental health I’ve been able to find a really good balance. When I do get off track (and I do), I always have these habits to fall back on!
Lets break it down:
Sleep Habits:
I’m an early riser and I love it! But because I work at home it’s sometimes hard to ‘shut-down’ at night. I’ve started to set a reminder on my phone to ‘wind down’ about an hour before I want to go to sleep. If I have lots to do and an early bedtime isn’t an option I set my alarm for 8 hours after bedtime no matter what time I go to bed! So even if I had planned a 6am workout but I dont get to bed till 11pm, I’m setting my alarm for 7am instead.
Fitness Habits:
I’ve been through the 6 days on, 1 day off routine for a long time but I definitely found it was too intense at time and I didn’t want to beat myself up! Now I set a realistic goals for 4-6 workouts per week depending on what is going on. I SCHEDULE in my workouts ahead of time and treat them like a meeting with a boss, NON-NEGOTIABLE! Gym time is ME time. We deserve it!
Skin/Hair care habits:
I have a pretty regimented morning and night routine! My morning is simple, moisturizer, witchhazel and SPF. My night routine includes a shower with Nioxin 3 part Scalp Treatment and taking their Recharging Complex supplements. I’ve honestly noticed such a change in the strength of my hair (way less breakage) after about a month of use! Since I started these biotin, zinc and iron based supplements my hair isn’t as dry even though I use heat on it every day and I noticed my nails grow faster and stronger too! I just got my hair cut and my stylist said it was pretty healthy considering the fact that we bleached it root down . The supplement is also gluten free if that’s a deal breaker for you ;)
Healthy Eating Habits:
Creating a healthy eating habit is actually where my whole journey started! Smoothie bowls!! Well and hot yoga. I decided that I was going to commit to ONE healthy meal a day. I noticed that when I ate a healthy breakfast I was more likely to eating well throughout the day so that’s the meal I picked! I made hundreds of smoothie bowls and still enjoy smoothie to this day! But since then I’ve broadened by recipes to include lots of go-to lunches and dinners like rice bowls, oatmeal, stir frys and currys etc. Having a bunch of go-to recipes on hand makes eating healthy way easier! Also PRE PLANNING meals makes a huge difference and choosing semi-healthy options when eating out! Of course I enjoy lots of ‘treats’ too. Hello UDON and Mochi.
So let’s break it down into the 10 habits:
Wind down an hour before bed by disconnecting from my phone/computer and tidying up
Set alarm for 8 hours after bedtime no matter what time bedtime is
Set weekly goals for the number of workouts I want to do in a week and schedule them in down to the hour for accountability
Use my morning and evening skin care routine every single day
Wash with Nioxin Scalp Treatment and take their Recharging Complex daily to keep my hair and nails healthy and fresh
Always start with a healthy breakfast to set myself up for a good day!
Plan meals and grocery shopping list in advance
Choose good options when eating out
Enjoy treats when I want them!
