5 Fitness Trends That Will Dominate in 2018

It’s pretty crazy how 2017 is practically over and we are well on our way to 2018. I feel like this was the fastest year yet... holidays are already around the corner! I’ve been reflecting on how my workouts, beliefs and even my gym style has evolved over the past year, and thought it would be fun to take a look at some fitness trends that I think will dominate in 2018! Here’s what I think you’ll be seeing WAYYY more of in 2018:
1. Workouts with friends
BBG is a great solo workout especially while you’re traveling, but I really think there is huge popularity in duo and group workouts and I'm fully on board. There’s no better way to keep yourself accountable than to set a date with a friend or sign up for a class you can't cancel! Plus, the energy in group classes is absolutely contagious. Lagree and SoulCycle aren't going anywhere anytime soon, and I think classes like Pound, Bari Studio (trampoline workout), Barre, Barry’s Bootcamp, Rise Nation and even meditation type classes like The Den or hot yoga (GREAT when it’s that time of the month and you’re trying to take it slow) will become even more sought after next year.
2. Technology to help your overall wellbeing
This year I started using fitness apps like MyFitnessPal, Kayla Itsines SWEAT, Headspace and Adidas ALL DAY. I’m noticing more apps pop up that are centered around bettering your wellbeing as a WHOLE. Meaning, there’s so much more to health than just being active – eating well and practicing mindfulness are also important to your overall wellness! I have no doubt that this trend will continue onto 2018. We’re about to see even more apps that will help track your mind, body and spirit in one place, and chances are it will come with a nifty gadget (probably in a form of a watch). Also on the technology radar is... virtual workouts! Ahh I’m so excited for that and still have yet to try it. I think they could be pretty fun. Imagine a virtual reality workout CLASS?! Mind. Blown.
3. Women LISTENING to their bodies
Recently I’ve seen A TON of my fitness friends scrap instructions on how to achieve the “perfect” body in favor of listening to their own bodies’ individual needs. I don’t see any sign of this empowering mindset slowing down in 2018! You know who determines how you want to sculpt your body? You do. Who gets a say in how many days a week you want to work out? You. If you’re hitting the gym for anyone else other than yourself you’re doing it wrong!
Personally, I feel my body operates at it’s best when I work out about five days a week. I try my best to stick to the regime no matter what... even if I’m traveling or on my period! For me, taking on a “no excuses” mentality is what keeps me on track with my personal fitness goals. Products like U by Kotex® FITNESS*tampons, pads and liners help me feel confident to keep moving when it’s that time of the month. Would def reccomend trying them out if you haven’t already!! 4. Fashion statements at the gym
There are two major fashion trends that are definitely going to be a thing in 2018, and one is definitely high-top sneakers with a supportive, sock-like ankle. Think a trendier looking basketball shoe! As for trend number two? Cropped hoodies! I love them. They are SO flattering with leggings. Overall, we’ll probably continue to see gym apparel that crosses over to ath- leisure. Which is the best style in my opinion, haha!
5. Sweat sessions fueled by “superfoods”
New 'superfoods' come to light every season, but it's hard to decide which are worth the hype and worth keeping around long-term. Lately, I'm seeing a lot more use of ghee (clarified butter which makes it dairy-free). Ghee is traditionally super common within Indian cultures, but the paleo community snatched it up a couple years ago so if you've tried the Whole30 you're probably familiar with it. It's less processed than vegetable oil, and is dairy-free which is why I can see people stocking up their shelves! Also think Kombu tea will gain popularity next year. “Kombu” means seaweed in Japanese, and I think Kombu tea is sooo underrated! I know it’ll have it’s moment one day! It's AMAZING for you. It’s rich in nutrients, lowers cholesterol and boosts your immune system. Also think we’re about to see even more “superfoods” show up in fermented form – specifically foods like natto (fermented soybeans), kombucha and kimchi. These foods aren’t just a great source of probiotics, but they’re also super high in iron and calcium, which every girl could use a boost of especially during her period.
What are some trends that you’re loving at the moment that you’d like to see continue onto the new year? I’d love to hear your thoughts! If you liked my trend predictions, be sure to check out my posts on the @UbyKotex Instagram page!
