Adopting Simba
SIMBERRRR
I’ve had Simba now for over 6 months…If you don’t know the story, he used to be my neighbors dog back when I lived in my old apartment. I remember coming home 2 years ago and seeing this beautiful white dog in the front yard with the sweetest eyes just loving and wanting all the attention. I didn’t know his name yet so I went ahead and called him ALBERRRT lol
He was so darn cute- I was so happy that I could visit him everyday and say hi if I wanted to since he lived 2 hours away.
I'm not sure if this blog post is totally of topic or not but I mean this is a lifestyle blog so is anything reallllly off topic?! If you are an avid 'stories' follower you have probably seen this big beautiful white dog named Simba. Simba is a X year old ____ (type of dog) who lived next door to me at my old condo and Ian and I loved hanging out with him, taking him for walks and just petting him constantly whenever we came home. He got so attached to us that he would give some serious sad puppy eyes when he saw us leaving to go to the car.
Over the years there was always talk about us adopting Simba. His family felt guilty because they didn't have much time for him so even though he had a pretty big yard to roam around in he didn't get out for many walks or get all the attention he needed because he is an outside dog. However, because our place is even smaller we could never seriously consider adopting him..UNTIL NOW!
Because I recently bought a house (still can't get over that by the way!!) we have a ton of room and a big yard. We talked seriously with the family about taking Simba to our new place and decided it was a solution that could make everyone happy. Wow, now I'm a house and dog owner!! Talk about adulting.
Turns out there are some logistics to owning a dog, more than I thought! Animals have to be registered so we got papers from Simba's previously family and had to set up a vet appointment to make sure he is all healthy and up to date on his shots!
We understand it's a big adjustment for Simba and we have to keep Monkey (my bunny) in mind too. So some of the steps we are taking are;
Teaching Simba his new areas by hanging out with him in the backyard and setting up a big water and food dish for him out there.
Letting him inside a house for the first time!! He gets suuuuuper excited when he is inside and slips around on the hardwood floor a lot LOL. We want him to be able to enjoy our company inside when we are at home because we both work from home a lot! This means exposing him to Monkey which will be very slow and steady. And teaching him that couches are off bounds and to go to the door when he needs to pee etc!
Making sure he understands he is safe and LOVED with us.
It's super tempting to get a puppy and you guys know I've been obsessed with golden retriiiivers lately (jk I know it's retriever) but taking in Simba has already been SO rewarding. I think Ian is happier than Simba is too :P He clearly has a knew best friend.
I'll keep you guys posted on how integrating Simba into the family goes!
